How Many Pounds Can You Lose On The ABC Diet?

The ABC Diet is an effective, but potentially risky and controversial diet. Before going on the ABC Diet, you should know that the acronym stands for “Ana Boot Camp.” Ana as in anorexia. There is a pro-ana or anorexia movement going on in society, which has harmed the health of a growing number of people especially young women. If you decide to go on the ABC Diet, realize that you could be putting your health at risk and could eventually develop anorexia nervosa.

What exactly is anorexia? Anorexia is the absence of appetite for any reason, while the illness anorexia nervosa means an inability to eat due largely to psychological reasons such as fearing weight gain. Any long-term absence of appetite can lead to starvation and eventually death. Hence, why most doctors recommend you eat no less than 1,200 calories a day without medical supervision.

The ABC Diet is a 50 day plan. Some days you eat 0 to 500 calories and on other days you eat up to 800 calories. Generally, you eat between 200 and 600 calories daily. Some days you will fast or not eat anything at all, which is when the ABC Diet could start becoming really dangerous for people with pre-existing health problems. Very specific types of foods, especially vegetables and fruits, are encouraged. Drinking plenty of water is important with any weight loss regimen, but especially the ABC Diet.

Anorexia of any kind, whether you choose to go on the ABC Diet or have an eating disorder, will lead to extreme weight loss. However, much of the weight will be water and muscle rather than fat. Any type of ana behavior can also cause anemia, bone loss, heart disease, kidney problems, electrolyte imbalances, and gastrointestinal problems

Most people who do the ABC Diet lose anywhere from 30 to 50 pounds. Some people who were severely obese to begin with lost more than 50 pounds. However, as nice as it sounds to lose 30 or more pounds in 50 days this is not a guarantee. Your body may hold on to any energy with all its might and you will lose little if any weight. The risks of the ABC Diet are probably not worth it. Whether you have a few pounds or a few hundred pounds to lose, there are plenty of other weight loss methods out there that are much safer and easier to sustain over the long term. After all, the key to lasting weight loss is sustainable lifestyle changes.
